Dr. Abdus Salam Mia was born in Shirajgonj, Bangladesh. After finishing his regular academic education SSC, HSC and Graduation, in 1957 he came to Texas A&M on Fulbright scholarship where he completed his MS and then did his PhD and post Doctorate at University of California, Davis. He returned to Mymenshing Agricultural University where he served as the Head of Department of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery. He had also served 2 years as visiting professor at Kansas State University from 1968 to 1970. He immigrated to USA in 1974 and joined as the head of Research & Development of Pitman-Moore Inc (subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson) where he retired from in 1994. After retirement he settled back in Bangladesh with commitment to improve the lives of the poor by providing them opportunities. He established a college in his home village of Chowbari in Shirajgonj. He passed away in 1995 due to complications following an operation. |
